President Trump just demanded a freshman Democrat resign after her disgraceful comments went viral.
The backlash has been fierce from within her own party – even Pelosi gave her a tongue lashing.
Which caused her to try to get in front of the firestorm by publicly apologizing. But with conservatives shouting double standard from the mountaintop, an apology is not enough and Trump is demanding her resignation.
From The AP: Freshman Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota has “unequivocally” apologized for tweets suggesting a powerful pro-Israel interest group paid members of Congress to support Israel. Earlier Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats had rebuked her for the tweets.
Omar said she had no intention of offending anyone by a tweet over the weekend suggesting that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, was behind the scheme. Another tweet mentioned “the Benjamins,” a reference to $100 bills.
AIPAC denied the assertion, and Democrats said they were shocked.
Omar tweeted Monday afternoon: “I unequivocally apologize.” She thanked her colleagues for educating her on anti-Semitic Jewish tropes. She said the influence of money in politics remains a problem and must be addressed.
President Donald Trump says freshman Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar “should be ashamed of herself” over tweets suggesting that a powerful pro-Israel interest group paid members of Congress to support Israel.
Trump today doubled down and is demanding her resignation. From Zerohedge:
Conservatives are fuming after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee over a Sunday night tweet widely interpreted as anti-Semitic, followed by a criticism of pro-Israel money in US politics.
Omar issued a Monday apology, which many have compared to Rep. Steve King (R-IA) – who apologized in January over controversial remarks, yet was stripped of his committee assignments after Congressional Democrats demanded his removal.
President Trump on Tuesday said to White House reporters of Omar: “I think she should either resign from congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.”
Trump added that her apology was “lame.”
